The previous owner of my "02 X changed the belts WITHOUT replacing the water pump. I"m now at 105k and am looking into changing the pump. I"m curious as to what"s involved.
You need to buy a timing belt kit and you can get it at Coutesy parts.Change the hoses you can get to also, as they are easiest when you have the front apart. The waterpump and tensioner bearing needs to be replaced at the same time.PS. I am sure he did not replace the timing belt at that time!Don"t ignore this, because the price is cheap to do before you incure valve damages!

FWIW, I would not reuse a timing belt that has been removed. As far as the water leak is concerned, have it pressure tested to see if indeed the water pump is leaking. My 02 was leaking from the upper water inlet due to corrosion of the aluminum inside the hose. Used a Gates hose and two hose clamps to stop the leak.
I am having the same issue but the hoses are real good. I had just replaced the radiator but now my pump is leaking like a waterfall, it stops when i drive but as soon as i stop or idle for abit it drains. I dont have much machinac skills nor the money to pay some one. So i am stuck on having to do it myself, not going to lie i am scared that i will mess something up and dealing with the timing belt umm no thank you please any pointers or help would be appreciated

Is there a difference of water pumps? The videos i seen and what i read are confusing me. I went to the part stor and told them my make and model and they gave me a flush mount pump, but the ones i seen are mounted in. Witch is it?Replaced engine but still vg33e 96 model
Every VG33E Pump I’ve ever replaced, I’ve done a few, looked like thisView attachment 74354View attachment 74355
